Version 20.1 of the Oxygen suite of products brings you a variety of new features and improvements that focus on productivity, performance, efficiency, and simplicity. New Features and Improvements in Oxygen XML Editor 20.1 include:

  • DITA authoring enhancements include a new compact mode in the DITA Reusable Components view, additional options in the DITA map validation feature, a new action to replace all referenced fragments with the actual content, and several new refactoring operations that extract topics into a new map or convert nested topics into new topics. * DITA publishing was updated to make the WebHelp output compliant with the Section 508 accessibility standard, making it accessible for people with disabilities.
  • Publishing DITA maps to PDF using CSS styles can be applied on HTML5 as intermediate format, thus providing the ability to reuse the HTML5 WebHelp publishing CSS styles. You can even use the same publishing template for both PDF and WebHelp Responsive customizations.
  • WebHelp Responsive now supports macros that allow you to insert variable text inside the output pages (for example, localized content, system properties, environment variables, timestamps, and XPath expressions).
  • A variety of improvements for JSON users, including the ability to validate JSON documents against a JSON Schema, a new document template to help create JSON Schemas, shortcuts to navigate references, and more.
  • Content Completion support in XSLT 3.0 documents now offers a way to easily set the name of a template to 'xsl:initial-template', embedded XPath expressions now provide better color highlighting for XPath 3.1 maps, and a new option in the Compile XSL Stylesheet for Saxon tool can be used to control the Saxon '-relocate' parameter.
  • The Git Client add-on received a variety of bug fixes and performance optimizations.
  • A new add-on is available for embedding images referenced in DITA, DocBook, or XHTML documents as Base64-encoded inline data. It's helpful if you want to transfer a document with image references over media designed to deal with textual data and you want to ensure the data remains intact.
  • A special DITA-OT 3.x add-on provides the ability to preview and convert Markdown documents to DITA using the Lightweight DITA 'MDITA' encoding rules (a more strict conversion standard than the normal encoding format).
  • This version includes numerous other improvements, new API entry points or extensions, and component updates, including new versions of the built-in Saxon engine and Calabash.

Oxygen XML Web Author provides an innovative web-based structured authoring tool. Its powerful technology and adaptive interface allows you to review, contribute, and edit content from anywhere that you can access a browser, on desktops, tablets, or mobile devices. New Features added in Oxygen XML Web Author version 20.1 include:

  • The breadcrumb that shows the XML structure was redesigned with a more modern style and it was moved to the bottom of the screen by default to make it less distracting for those who want to focus on the content. There are also options to move it back to the top or hide it entirely.
  • A new option was added where you can select from a set of CSS styles that define the visual rendering of the document. This makes it easy to change the look of the document.
  • Comments and tracked changes are now easier to locate with arrows that connect them from the Review panel to the editor and hovering over comments or tracked changes now offer inline actions to make it easier to manage them.
  • DITA element names are now displayed with a more user friendly label.
  • The Content Completion Assistant now includes documentation for each element and you have the ability to customize those annotations for custom frameworks.
  • Support was added for more input methods, such as Korean and Chinese Sougou on Windows, and Chinese on Mac.
  • The Image Map Editor was enhanced so that it's now easier to create free form shapes.
  • The ${ask} variable is now supported in framework actions. This makes it easier to add toolbar actions that require user input.
