Steve J. DeRose

Steve DeRose work with hypermedia systems began with FRESS (at Brown University) in 1979. In 1989 he co-founded Electronic Book Technologies and designed DynaText, the first SGML online delivery engine, and other products. He is now Chief Scientist for Inso, EBT's parent company. He is active in standards with ISO, the TEI, SGML Open, and W3C, and is co-editor of XLL. He is a frequent speaker in industry and academe, and has written many papers and two books: Making Hypermedia Work (with David Durand), and The SGML FAQ Book.

XML Linking

This document specifies a simple set of constructs that may be inserted into XML documents to describe links between objects and to support addressing into the internal structures of XML documents. It is a goal to use the power of XML to create a structure that can describe the simple unidirectional hyperlinks of today's HTML as well as more sophisticated multi-ended, typed, self-describing links.
